Tenting on a Forest Service Road (mile 431.9). Walked 25.3 miles today.
Got going just after 6 this morning as we were planning a big day. Began with a gentle climb then stopped at a spring after a few miles.
Kept climbing to a fantastic view before descending to a fire station which was the next water source.
Stopped at a picnic area just after the fire station (Flying found the water but Snowflake and I missed the turnoff) and ate and chatted with another hiker, Siesta, who is only going as far as Acton. The afternoon started with a big climb before weaving around mountains. Snowflake and Flying discussed animal rights while we walked and a little later, Snowflake and I discussed vegan activism. Really interesting discussions.
The trail this afternoon was REALLY overgrown and pain to push uphill through the brush.
Climbed Mt. Gleason in the afternoon and rested a bit before descending to our campsite.
At the spring before the campsite, someone had made it easier to get water by using a rock and a leaf to make a spout. Pretty ingenious engineering I thought. Will have to remember that for the future.
A little concerned about rain tonight as the ominous clouds were nearby, so tenting with the rain fly up.
Those stormy pictures are beautiful though! They look like paintings. Of course I can enjoy the idea of rain from the comfort of my house. I absolutely love the bit of engineering. Humans can be kind of amazing sometimes. Good thing the overgrown bits weren't full of poodle-dog bush!
ReplyDeleteI love creative people, and the hiker community is certainly that and kind/thoughtful to others.
