Day 29 - Wednesday, May 26

At the SureStay Hotel in Tehachapi.  A zero day.

Had my alarm set for 3:45 but my alarm went off for a solid 3 minutes before Katie finally shook me awake.  This may be the first time that I've slept through an alarm.  Myself, Katie, Mud Dog, and Jedi all got up and went outside to see the lunar eclipse.
We went to the truck stop next door to watch it for about 20 minutes, then we went back in and slept for a few more hours.  Got up for the second time and checked out before trying to get a hitch to the hotel we'll stay in tonight.  Despite there being no place to pull over, a guy stopped for us and drove us the couple miles up the road to the SureStay where we dropped our bags before hitting up a coffee place a couple blocks over for breakfast.  Got a tasty veggie scramble and a muffin.  We then went over to the post office to help Old Dubs, Jedi, and Katie pick up packages while Ally tried to get an appointment to see someone about her ankle.
When we got back, we went to a small grassy area in the middle of town where a couple of other hikers, Sam and Hannah, were sorting their resupply.  They gave us a couple of Cinnabons and then we went to the hotel where our room was ready early.  We moved in and got situated before heading to the store to do our resupply.  Met AB (from Virginia) and Tina Burina both of whom Jedi had hiked with before.  Spent quite a bit at the store then had to carry our stuff back to the hotel.  Sorted through everything and AB came over to shower and hang with us for a bit.  Then Shit Kicker, an Aussie hiker came over and we all hung out.  I apparently have committed a mortal sin by never having eaten sushi before.
We all went out for it and they all helped me order.  It was pretty good.  Came back and we all watched Goonies before turning in.

  2. You must've really needed sleep! That's so cool that you got to see the lunar eclipse. Your town days sound like so much fun. I also can't believe you'd never had sushi before - glad it was pretty good!

  3. That is kinda crazy you've never had sushi before. I guess I didn't have it until I was in my 20s too. But that was before the "sushi craze". Hahaha...I always thought it was just raw fish. Not appealing. Lunar eclipse in the desert would be awesome.

    1. I would have liked to have been in a darker area for the eclipse, but it was still good. I thought sushi was just raw fish too, but it was good.
