Cowboy camping at a spacious pine-forest campsite (mile 604.4). Walked 23.8 miles today.
We got up later than we planned this morning, but had a beautiful sunrise.
Was informed by Frank that she could hear me snoring last night. Something that I don't think I've done before. We hiked 3 miles to the first water source in about an hour.
Yesterday, Frank referred to Jedi and I as "Bozos" and kind of understandably. She's done a lot of eye rolling recently. Jedi and I feed off of each other and seem to have the maturity of teenagers when in each other's presence (note: she later changed her name for us to the less insulting "the boys"). I've also been kind of a smart ass too. For example:
Frank: Where are we?
Me: We're on the Pacific Crest Trail!
Or:
Frank: Are we getting close to the water source?
Me: Every step we take, we get closer!
I ran out of water for the first time on trail about half a mile before the spring. Loaded up with enough water to make it 20 miles to the next water source. Hiked through a construction area where they are building a road to install a wind farm. Slight trail detour, but good signage for us to follow.
We started to spread out at this point. After a while, I caught Frank and we hiked to try to catch Jedi.
Got to a huge climb which really exhausted us. Went down the other side of the hill past what must have been 50 blow downs. It's such a pain to climb over these downed trees and really slows us down. Got to a pass between two mountains and ate lunch with a few other people I've yet to meet. After lunch, we had another climb before moving into a forested area and then hiking on a dirt road.
Reached the 600 mile mark about 3 pm.
Only 100 more miles to Kennedy Meadows. That's been the talk of everyone for the past two days. The Sierras are getting close and everyone is getting excited. We did another 2 miles into the spring which was a questionable water source. It smelled of cow crap and had lots of objects floating in it. I took a couple liters but will try not to use it if I can help it. Did another two miles to our campsite tonight where there are a total of 11 people camped in a clearing in this pine forest. AB, Tina Burina, JPRO, Clockwork, Tiger Blood, Moxie, and a few others that I've met over the past few days are also camped here.
Boy I don't blame Frank for her eye-rolling!
ReplyDeleteOh it wasn't that bad...
DeleteTake Dave Matthew's advice and "don't drink the water".
ReplyDeleteI only used it to boil water to cook dinner!
