Woke up at the normal 5 am despite the late night. Got up slowly and made our way to breakfast at Schat's Bakery. Got a cranberry muffin, fresh squeezed orange juice, and a pull apart. Photo credit: Jedi.
After breakfast, we went to the grocery to do our resupply. Got our food for the next week and then walked back to the hostel to sort it. on the way back, we passed a ranger station with an apricot tree out front. We picked and ate a few not-quite-fully-ripe apricots and AB showed off her juggling skills.
I went to pick a package up at the post office and then went shopping at an outfitter for some new items. According to the scales I've been on, I haven't lost any weight, but I have lost inches around the waist (I assume the fat has been converted to muscle) to the point where I needed to buy a new pair of underwear: size small. I can't remember when I wore a size small anything! Tried to get a haircut but the barbers in town were booked so I got a pair of cheap clippers at the family dollar. Went back to the post office to mail home my microspikes as I don't think I'll need them for the upcoming section due to the lack of snow. I then made a sandwich and after, called home. Frank then cut my hair for me and I trimmed my beard. While we were hanging out in the room, Desert Flower showed up and came to hang out. Photo: AB (doing her nails) and Desert Flower.
He made it to Mammoth Lakes but is getting off the trail for good now. He's been injured for a while but we're glad he made it to the Sierra at least. He's happy with his success getting this far and will try to hitch down to LA tomorrow. Then Chaparral turned up and we chatted for a bit. We then went to dinner at the bowling alley with like 12 of us. During dinner, Frank was doing some online shopping for new clothes when we hatched an incredible scheme. More to come on that later...
Came back and had a cheesecake that AB had spent a good chunk of the day making for us all. It was really good.
Did some online shopping and general hanging out at the hostel before going to bed.
AB is a talented juggler and cook- the cheesecake looked delicious! No, you’ve never been a small size. I’m glad you got to see Desert Flower before he left the trail and that he made it to the Sierras-a unique experience. Very curious about your “incredible scheme” and a little apprehensive...; )
ReplyDeleteI love that AB was painting her nails. Also that cheesecake looks AMAZING. It's nice that you got to see Desert Flower before he left the trail. I'm sure that's a hard decision, even if he's injured.
