Day 55 - Monday, June 21

Tenting at the Middle Fork of the San Joaquin River (mile 911.0).  Walked 4.4 miles today.

Didn't sleep well last night as apparently Jedi doesn't understand what half of the bed is...

We all got up and ready and then went to breakfast at a restaurant on the other side of town.  I had a breakfast scramble which was really good.
Frank and I then rushed back to the hotel to check out and then got a ride from Mama to return our Jedi costumes to Amazon.  Mama then drove Frank and I to the trailhead so we could set out back on the trail.  The others are not coming today which irritated Frank and I.  We had hiked ahead of the others and planned to take a zero in Mammoth because they wanted to go to Vermillion Valley Resort (VVR - a 12-mile detour off trail that Frank and I had no desire to visit.  Our doing that would have allowed them to catch up to us we would all hike out together. Not only did they not go to VVR, but now they're zeroing too.

Hot Pink and crew had just arrived before us and we got organized with them before they set out.  We set out a bit later and hiked up past Devil's Postpile, a really interesting rock formation.
We did the 4, relatively easy miles to camp, and got there at 3:30 pm.  It was another tough day coming out of town.  The town hangover is a real thing and it sucks.  We soaked out feet in the river and relaxed for the evening.
We got a message today from Old Dubs.  She arrived at Kennedy Meadows and is ready to start the Sierra.  So far she seems to be doing well.

Today, AB pointed out that if you were to tell someone about Bill and Frank going hiking, you would imagine two 60-year old men, not a male and female in their 30s.  Just thought that was a funny thought as Frank and I continue up the trail.

  1. Devil’s postpile is strange looking and looks man made, but nature dies that. Beautiful river to camp next to!

  2. Those rocks! Wow. Hangovers of any kind suck.

  3. Aw good to hear from Old Dubs! That's exciting that she's starting the Sierra. I love the Devil's Postpile picture. Looks amazing. I love the gender neutral nature of trail names!
