Got going slowly again this morning. We ate bagels for breakfast and then packed up to head off. We walked Jesse and Scooby to the car and then set off down the trail. Not too far down it, we came to soda springs, an area where carbonated water bubbles up from the ground.
Drank a bit and it was surprisingly fizzy.
Hiked on and met two other PCT hikers: Vagabond, and Boujee (or the other Bougie - we had heard there was another person with that name but hadn't met them yet). We walked together briefly before Frank and I pulled ahead. While we walked with them, they introduced us to a game they've been playing. Basically the first person to see a sign on the trail yells out "sign!" It's a fun way to keep you a little more alert. Ran into a metric fuck-ton of dayhikers and weekend backpackers along the trail as we hiked next to a river.
Late in the morning, we reached Tuolumne Falls which were pretty cool.
After that, everyone disappeared...no more day hikers, weekend backpackers, and only a few PCTers.
We stopped at a meadow for lunch and ate some of the food Jesse left with us.
I had a sandwich (I think this is my first sandwich since April...) and a peach. After lunch, we continued hiking and after some up and downs, we reached a campground which we decided to call home for the night.
We were short of our goal for the day, but ok with the decision. We both bathed in the stream before doing some stream laundry.
We did some stretching and then Boujee and Vagabond turned up to camp with us. Others turned up as well throughout the evening and I think we had 7 people camped at the site this evening which is more than we've had recently.
Mountains, large rocks, tall trees, and streams-doesn’t get much better than that! Nature’s version of a fizzy drink-who knew? Certainly not I!
ReplyDeleteCarbonated ground water is definitely not what I was expected to read about. The new "sign" game reminds me of car games - like Penske!
ReplyDeleteYeah it was not something I had expected to try. I forgot about Penske!
