We got up, packed up, and then left for the trailhead about 8:30 am. Mama drove Frank and I to the trailhead where we got off the trail and Narrator and Magnet to a trailhead a mile or so up trail which is where they got off the trail. We started up the trail and Frank realized that her water bottles fell out of her bad pouch in the back of Mama's car. After a mile, we reached Echo Lake and Frank was able to get a coupe of Gatorades and use those bottle for water bottles for this stretch.
We rested at the store and then climbed around the lake. It was poor quality trail tread and after a mile or so, we came across an older man who had fallen. Two girls arrived just before us and they helped him up and stopped the bleeding on his arm. Frank and I went ahead and after a couple more miles, ran into the man's wife. We told her what had happened and she turned around to go back as she was carrying the first aid kit.
The trail today was super crowded and annoying to walk around all the people. Frank's legs are swollen today so she's having a tough time and hasn't been able to find a good pair of compression socks anywhere. We did a climb up and then got to Lake Aloha which is absolutely beautiful.
For a moment I forgot where I was and thought I was back in the high Sierra. We ate lunch here and hung out before hiking up the rough trail toward Dick's Pass. Along the way, Frank said "Don't we pass 1,100 miles today?" "We do" I replied. I then looked at my phone and realized we were at mile 1,102. We had somehow missed the marker but we had reached the milestone nonetheless.
The climb up was long but it had some really nice views.
From the top, we could see a fire in the distance (smoke behind the mountain at the center right of the picture).
No cell service to tell exactly where it is though in relation to the trail. We descended the pass and after a few miles, got to a couple of tent sites where I set up my brand new tent and marvelled in how much room there is in it compared to my old one. It's also almost exactly the same weight which is nice. We didn't get to bed late which bodes poorly as tomorrow is a big day.
I have a pair of compression socks I’ll be glad to send. I wore them once and Kaye wore them a couple of times. Those views do look like the Sierra pictures!
ReplyDeleteIt really does look like the Sierra there! Hope Frank's legs stop swelling (or that she's able to get some compression socks).
