Day 83 - Monday, July 19

Cowboy camping in an oak forest  (mile 1423.0).  Walked  11.7 miles today.

Slept in a little today and took our time getting ready.  We all showered, ate, backflushed our water filters, and hung out.  At 11, we checked out of the hotel and I went to Safeway to resupply while Frank and J-PRO went to Grocery Outlet to do the same.  After we had our food, we hung out outside the store and ate.  Frank modeled her new clothes and had a photoshoot.
We finally decided to hitch to the trail and got a ride after about 5 minutes.  A really nice guy picked us up and we were on trail by 1:30 pm.

The three of us hiked along through easy terrain and within a couple of hours, we had reached Burney Falls.  We went to the general store and got massive ice cream cones and then walked down to the falls.
It was really cool.  There was a creek we crossed a mile before the falls and it was completely dry.  Just before the falls, there was a ton of water in it.  That's the magic of these falls.  Groundwater is forced to the surface and then goes over the falls.  The groundwater that stays underground then seeps through the wall of the falls, creating a pretty cool effect.  After our visit to the falls, we hiked another few miles through an oak forest and over a dam.
Finally we got to a site and had dinner.  J-PRO realized he left his cook set in the hotel, so I let him have mine.  It lightens my load and I had been wanting to experiment more with cold soaking.  About bedtime the mosquitoes came out but it's still really warm so we can't get in our bags without being too hot.  Hoping it doesn't rain tonight but looks like it might.
