Woke up about 6 am after less sleep than we were hoping for. We got up and took our time packing up before going to a French bakery for breakfast. The food here was fantastic and we ate a bunch before heading to the post office so Frank could mail a box ahead to herself and the went back to the hotel and finalizing out packing. Frank foraged for blackberries and cherries in the side yard.
We checked out and went to the grocery before going to the cafe where we met up with Hocus Pocus. While we were there, Rambo turned up. We hadn't seen her in several hundred miles and it was good to briefly catch up. Hot Pink is off trail and Sure Foot is somewhere not too far up the trail now.. We also saw Wow here for the first time since Evolution Lake in the Sierra. We hung out a bit more before we left to try to hitch. Etna has been such a cool town and we're sad to leave.
We thought it would be a difficult hitch but the first car pulled over and offered us a ride. It was an older gentleman who told us all about how the weather in the area has changed in his 68 years of living here.
When we got to the trailhead, Frank and I headed off, passing the 1600 mile marker.
We entered the Marble Mountain Wilderness and rested at a trail register for a bit. We hiked slow and were passed by Rambo and her crew after a while.
We got to one spot but I convinced Frank to go another mile to a site which had cell service and nice views.
When we got there, we ate and made a plan for our upcoming trail stops. Going to bed early tonight to hopefully sleep well.
You’ve visited so many towns with great food, kind people, and unique places to stay that you would likely only find on this hike.
