We didn't set an alarm for this morning. Both Sam and First Class beat Frank and I out of camp. We kept hiking through the burn area and entered Crater Lake National Park.
We wove through fairly gentle terrain while discussing good books to read. We got to the highway where we faced a choice. We could go to the small village where a restaurant and our resupply boxes were by walking this road, or we could hike another mile and enter via a side trail. We had only done just under 7 miles, so we opted for more miles today in favor of fewer miles tomorrow.
We turned off the PCT and did the 1+ miles down the Annie Spring Trail to Mazama Village where I picked up our resupply boxes at the store and then Frank and I went to the restaurant to get lunch. We ate with First Class, Little Bags, and Orange Slice and then after they left, Dirty Knuckles and Prime joined us. We hung out for a bit and then went back over to the store, got some ice cream, and charged our devices. Frank went to the campground to set up and I called my cousin to arrange pickup details for Wednesday. I then went to set my stuff up (running into Drip and Drop who I hadn't seen since just after Wrightwood) and then joined the others plus Chaparral at the restaurant where we ordered dinner and chatted for a bit before returning to the campground.
Sisyphus and another hiker couldn't find spots, so I gave them mine and set up to cowboy camp underneath Frank's hammock.
We chatted some before going to bed early as I'm getting up early for sunrise at the lake.
Great photo of Frank with the Crater Lake sign-truly happy to be there. No guns and no mushroom picking I see. Amazing how you all run into hikers you haven’t seen in weeks or months.
ReplyDelete"Little Bags" and "Orange Slice" are both very good trail names. If you know how they got their names, let me know!
ReplyDeleteI can't remember but they did say when we met them just after Lassen.
