Day 118 - Monday, August 23

Tenting at the Little Crater Lake Junction (mile 2079.8). Walked 20.6 miles today.

It was cold and foggy out this morning and it took us a while to get up and going (which might be a problem as it'll likely be cold from here on out). Frank made herself a hot breakfast for the first time in a long time as she finally got her stove back after sending it home in Mammoth Lakes.

When we did get going, we had gentle grades to hike on and even found an old PCT trail marker.
We got our first views of Mt. Hood from the trail, but only through the trees.  We'll get better views tomorrow when we reach it.
As we walked, we talked about marathons and ultra marathons as we walked and everything we've put our bodies through on this hike.  How much farther can we push?  Hopefully to Canada!

In the afternoon, we reached a highest with a grand entranceway to the trail and soon after, we started walking around the shores of Timothy Lake.
We got some good views of the lake and some tree-shielded views as well.
Several miles later, and a short side trail, we reached Little Crater Lake which is clear, has a lovely blue color to it, and is fed by an artesian spring.
After some time at the lake, we set up at a spot right near the side trail junction to the lake and had time to eat a hot dinner for the first time in a while. We actually went to bed at a decent hour too - right about 9:00. We only saw a few southbounders today and one other northbounder.  We like the quietness of the trail, now that the massive bubble of people has jumped ahead of us.

  3. Love the old trail marker! And that lake is eerily blue and clear - it's strange to see logs at the bottom of it.
