Day 125 - Monday, August 30

Tenting at Trout Lake Creek (mile 2224.8). Walked 26.0 miles today.

We got on trail right about 7 this morning and started a gentle climb. After a mile, we reached the 2200 mile mark and we continued upwards.
As we climbed, we started getting into the clouds. The temperature dropped and the wind picked up. It became quite cold and uncomfortable. Even on the leeward side of the mountain, it was still chilly and to top it off, there were no views due to the clouds, although the fall colors were good.
After reaching the high point for the day, we descended and planned to stop for water at a lake, but it ended up being a steep descent and the trail was a ways away from the lake, so we decided to just carry what we had to the next water 10 miles away. It's cold so we weren't drinking a lot and it was mostly downhill. We hiked a couple more miles and got to a trailhead with a picnic table and SUN where we warmed up and ate.
We were joined by Rally and we finished slightly before her and Frank and I hiked the 4 miles to the water source. Rally caught up to us here and we all hiked the last 5 miles to camp together.
On the way, we discovered that Rally had hiked with Old Dubs for a bit after she got back on trail after her injury, so that was cool to find that connection, especially since up to this point we hadn't found anybody that Rally, Frank, and I all knew.

We reached camp after a relatively easy day of hiking. A couple of older section hikers (Mosey and Aria) were here and we chatted with them briefly before we ate dinner and went to bed. Tonight it's supposed to be into the 30s, so hopefully we can stay warm.

  1. I’m enjoying the different materials that the mileage signs are made if - was the 2200 sign made if miss or leaves? It’s surprising that you’re encountering cold temperatures here but I guess you are in the mountains.

  2. As you said a couple of posts ago, it's too early for Fall foliage, but it does look really nice! I like whatever the 2200 mile mark was made of.
